US Fall 2027 Intake: Common Application Deadlines You Must Track

US undergraduate admissions run on a different rhythm from India's single-exam system — most competitive universities use a mix of application rounds, and choosing the right one can materially affect your odds.

The three main rounds

• Early Decision (ED): binding — if admitted, you must attend. Typically offers a statistically higher acceptance rate, but only makes sense if the university is genuinely your first choice, since you forfeit the ability to compare financial aid offers elsewhere.
• Early Action (EA): non-binding — you apply early and hear back early, but you're free to consider other offers before deciding.
• Regular Decision (RD): the standard, non-binding round most international applicants use, with the widest applicant pool and latest deadlines.

What the application actually needs

The Common Application (or Coalition App, depending on the university) typically requires transcripts, a personal essay, supplementary essays specific to each university, letters of recommendation, and standardised test scores if the university requires them. Financial aid forms like the CSS Profile are separate and have their own, often earlier, deadlines for international students.

Build your own calendar the moment you shortlist universities — ED and EA deadlines usually fall months before RD, and recommendation letters, in particular, need lead time from your teachers.
