UK Undergraduate Admission 2026: UCAS Timeline for Indian Students
Applying to UK universities runs through a single centralised platform, UCAS, which lets you apply to up to five courses with one application and one personal statement. For Indian students, the timeline below is a useful general guide — always confirm exact dates on ucas.com for the intake year you're applying to.
Key stages
- Research and shortlisting: compare entry requirements, especially A-level or IB equivalency tables UK universities use for Indian Class 12 boards.
- Personal statement: a single statement is sent to all five choices, so it needs to speak to your subject interest broadly rather than any one university specifically.
- Early deadlines: Oxford, Cambridge, and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses close applications far earlier than other courses — check this first, as it's the deadline students miss most often.
- Standard deadline: the main UCAS deadline for most courses follows a few months later.
- Offers: universities respond with unconditional, conditional (usually based on your final Class 12 results) or unsuccessful decisions.
After you receive offers
You choose one firm (first) and one insurance (backup) offer. If you meet your firm offer's conditions, you're in; if not, UCAS automatically checks your insurance choice.
Visa timeline
Once you have an unconditional offer and your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the university, you can apply for a UK Student visa — this typically needs to be done a few months before your course start date, so don't leave it until the last minute.
