Royal Holloway University of London 2026 Ranking, Fees, Entry Requirements and Scholarships for Indian Students

Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL) is a research-focused university on a 135-acre campus in Egham, Surrey, about 40 minutes from central London. It is one of the UK's well-known universities for arts, humanities, social sciences, business and sciences.

The university says it has around 500 Indian students enrolled and more than 1,350 alumni based in India. This guide covers the main things Indian applicants ask about: ranking, fees, entry requirements and scholarships.

Royal Holloway University of London Ranking

Royal Holloway is ranked =485 in the QS World University Rankings 2027, according to TopUniversities. In the UK, it is reported at 42nd in the Complete University Guide 2027. Check the latest Complete University Guide page for the current position.

Research is a stronger point. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), 88% of the university's research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent, which puts it in the top 25% of UK universities.

League table positions change every year and differ by subject, so check your chosen subject's ranking as well as the overall one.

Royal Holloway Fees for Indian Students

Indian students are charged the international (overseas) fee. The university does not set a separate fee for India. The fee depends on your course and is listed on the course finder page for each programme.

As an example, the official page for BSc Computer Science lists an international fee of £27,900 per year for 2027/28 entry. Fees are generally lower for some arts and humanities courses and higher for some science and business courses.

The university's international student fees page gives these payment details:

  • A tuition fee deposit of £3,000 or £10,000 must be paid before a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) number is issued for a Student visa.
  • Students starting in September 2026 can pay in two equal instalments.
  • Payments are made online through Flywire.

Budget for living costs, accommodation, visa fees and insurance as well as tuition. Convert the GBP fee to rupees using the current exchange rate, because it changes often.

Royal Holloway Tuition Fees (General)

Fees depend on your residency status and level of study:

  • Home (UK) undergraduates: £9,790 for students starting in 2026/27.
  • EU and international undergraduates: the international fee applies and varies by course.
  • Postgraduate and research degrees: fees vary by programme or department and are listed on the course finder.

Fees can rise while you study. For continuing international students, the annual increase is based on the UK Retail Price Index (RPI) and capped at 7.5%. See the official undergraduate tuition fees page and postgraduate tuition fees page.

Entry Requirements for International Students (India)

Requirements depend on the course, so always check the course finder entry. The university's India page gives the following general guidance.

Undergraduate Entry

  • Indian Higher Secondary Certificate (Class 12): considered for direct entry. Most departments ask for an overall grade of 80% to 85%, with 85% in any subjects specified in the A-level requirements for the course.
  • A levels or IB: considered for direct entry. Exact grades are on each course page.
  • Diploma of Secondary: you need to complete the one-year International Foundation Year or International Year One first, at the Royal Holloway International Study Centre or an equivalent programme.

Postgraduate Entry

  • Masters: a Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject with good grades. Departments usually ask for 55% to 65% overall, depending on the programme and your university.
  • MPhil/PhD: a relevant Masters degree with good grades. Requirements vary by programme.
  • Pre-Masters: available at the International Study Centre if you do not quite meet the Masters requirements.

English Language Requirements

All applicants must prove English proficiency. Royal Holloway offers Indian students some exemptions:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree from selected Indian universities can be accepted as proof of English (Medium of Instruction). These include Anna University, Ashoka University, IISc Bangalore, five IITs, IIM Ahmedabad, OP Jindal Global University, University of Delhi, University of Mumbai and others. This is valid for 3 years from the end of your degree.
  • A Class 12 English score of 70% for undergraduate and postgraduate taught study, or 80% for research degrees, can also be accepted, subject to the validity periods on the official page.

Scholarships for International Students

Royal Holloway lists its scholarships on the official scholarships page. Applications for 2027 entry had not opened when this article was written. Some of the main options for international students are below.

  • Royal Holloway India Masters Scholarship: a £6,000 tuition fee reduction in the first year for self-funded, full-time Masters students currently living in India. It is awarded automatically, with no separate application. Eligibility depends on where you live, not your nationality. See the scholarship page.
  • International Undergraduate Scholarship (2027 entry): £3,000 off tuition for each year of study for international undergraduates achieving BBB at A-level, IB 30 overall, or an equivalent. It is awarded automatically. See the scholarship page.
  • International Masters Scholarship: a tuition fee reduction of £2,000 to £4,000 for international Masters students.
  • Other awards: the official list also includes the Royal Holloway GREAT Scholarships, the Chevening Royal Holloway Scholarship and several subject-specific awards. Each has its own eligibility rules and deadlines.

Most scholarships cannot be held together with another Royal Holloway tuition fee scholarship. If you qualify for more than one, you usually receive the one with the highest value. Read the terms and conditions for each award.

How to Apply

  1. Choose your course on the Royal Holloway course finder and check its entry requirements and fee.
  2. Check the English language requirements and whether you qualify for an exemption.
  3. Apply through UCAS for undergraduate courses, or through the university's applicant portal for postgraduate courses.
  4. Pay the tuition fee deposit to receive your CAS number, then apply for your Student visa.
